Drawing from multiple transformation stories with mixed results, this talk focuses on the importance of culture created during transformation.  With an expressed focus on core agile values, empathy, team engagement and trust - teas and products emerge with high optimization when there is a mindful approach to building of culture.  This talk also touches on the impact of Management 3.0 practices and effective coaching on agile teams.

 We’ve all been in conversations and presentations where the other party just didn’t reach us. Many of us have also been a presenter to a single person or a group and had the feeling that our audience just wasn’t getting it. The presenter certainly has a plan for their presentation… Do you realize that your listener has a plan their listening? When these plans don’t align, guess which one rules? In this session we’ll cover the strategies, dimensions (NLP) and psychology of communicating effectively and achieving your intended result. In an hour we can’t do it all, but we will do an experiment or two to demonstrate why this matters and give you concrete techniques to make you more successful.

Autonomy, especially aligned and effective autonomy, is an outcome, not something you start with. This talk will discuss what is necessary to support autonomy and what Spotify has in place that works and doesn't quite work.

“The Empire Strikes Back: How to Lose/Win Against Insurmountable Odds” will walk the audience through the failures of trying to change the culture of execution and what you can do to not let it consume you.  As the saying goes, when you can’t be a good example, just be a horrible warning for others.  The second half of the session will focus on how the learnings from failing at one job, can lead to spectacular success as is the case with the story of Symphony Communications.  The talk will be one part storytelling, one part inspirational, and whole lot of self deprecating project management humor.
